Located on a 118 acre sod farm, OBGC (Olney Boys and Girls Club) Community Park is a collection of soccer, baseball, and football fields in Olney, Maryland. The mission of OBGC is to provide children with safe after-school sports programs that emphasize physical and emotional development, build self-esteem and cultivate a lifelong interest in sports, health, and teamwork. This place matters to me, and everyone else in the Olney community because it is home to a youth sports facility that many families can enjoy. Purchased in 1998, it was over a year before OBGC Community Park gained the necessary governmental approvals and special exceptions to build its $6.5 million park.

I really like how factual this post is. It gives good insight into why the park should be preserved, with factual information and history to back it up. Because it's not a very personal post, I didn't really connect with it emotionally, but if this park was in danger of being closed down, this post would be a great way to support the park.
ReplyDeleteI like how you gave us a lot of information on the subject you are talking about, but I would like to see more about why this place matters so much to you.
ReplyDeleteI love that you incorporated so much history into this post! Its really fascinating to see where the OBGC came from and how it evolved into something that the community can really relate to! Maybe just state the cultural significance a tad sooner. But overall great job!
ReplyDeleteI love that you added citations. This is a very cool because I myself have also been involved in sports when I was a kid, so I can relate. I think there were too many figures and not enough narration.
